Fire near Dubai airport contained after drone crash, no injuries reported
Authorities said a fire caused by a drone crash near Dubai International Airport has been contained, with no injuries reported.
The blaze broke out after a drone fell near the airport and struck a fuel tank, prompting an emergency response from Dubai Civil Defence crews, who successfully brought the fire under control.
As a precautionary measure, flights at the airport were temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.
The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority advised travellers to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights.
In a post on X, the Dubai Media Office said authorities were monitoring the situation and further updates would be announced through official channels.
The incident occurred amid heightened regional tensions following the outbreak of the US–Israeli war on Iran on February 28.
According to reports, Gulf states have faced waves of missile and drone attacks since the conflict began. Officials said the United Arab Emirates has intercepted more than 1,500 drones during this period.
Earlier on March 14, another fire broke out in Fujairah, an emirate of the UAE, after debris fell following the interception of an unmanned aerial vehicle by air defence systems. No injuries were reported in that incident.
Authorities did not disclose details about the drone’s origin, the exact location of the crash, or the extent of the damage.
Officials also said that Iran has launched more than 1,800 missiles and drones toward the UAE since the start of the conflict, making it one of the most heavily targeted countries in the region. Most of the projectiles were intercepted by air defence systems.
Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Defence reported six deaths since the conflict began — four civilians and two military personnel. The soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash linked to a technical issue.
