IndoUS Tribune has issued two significant political endorsements ahead of the upcoming Illinois elections, backing Raja Krishnamoorthi for the United States Senate and Daniel Biss for Congress in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District.

The editorial board of IndoUS Tribune, a publication widely read within the South Asian diaspora in the United States, announced the endorsements as part of its effort to encourage civic participation and informed voting among immigrant communities.

Endorsement for U.S. Senate

In its endorsement, the publication praised Congressman Krishnamoorthi for his record in Congress and his longstanding engagement with immigrant communities. The Senate seat is being vacated by longtime Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, making the race one of the most closely watched political contests in the state.

The editorial noted that Krishnamoorthi has emerged as one of the most prominent South Asian leaders in national politics and commended his work on issues ranging from economic competitiveness to consumer protection and national security.

The newspaper also highlighted the congressman’s accessibility and relationship with the South Asian community, describing him as a “close friend of the community who has consistently stood with South Asian Americans on crucial matters.” According to the editorial board, his leadership has helped bring visibility to immigrant communities while advancing policies that support education, entrepreneurship, and economic opportunity.

The endorsement emphasized that Krishnamoorthi’s election would represent a historic milestone for Illinois, particularly for the growing South Asian population in the state.

Support for Daniel Biss in the 9th District

The publication also endorsed Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss for the congressional seat being vacated by longtime Representative Jan Schakowsky in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District.

In its editorial, IndoUS Tribune cited Biss’s extensive public service experience, including his tenure in the Illinois House of Representatives and Illinois Senate, as well as his current role as mayor of Evanston.

The newspaper described Biss as a thoughtful and pragmatic leader who understands the diverse needs of the district, which includes a significant immigrant and South Asian population. It praised his engagement with community organizations and his commitment to democratic values, public education, and economic opportunity.

Encouraging Civic Participation

The editorial board said the endorsements reflect the publication’s broader mission of strengthening civic participation within the South Asian community.

“As South Asian Americans continue to grow in political influence across the United States, it is essential that our community remains actively engaged in the democratic process,” the board noted.

By endorsing Krishnamoorthi for the Senate and Biss for the House, IndoUS Tribune expressed confidence that both leaders possess the experience, integrity, and vision necessary to represent Illinois effectively in Washington.

The newspaper also encouraged voters across Illinois—particularly within immigrant communities—to participate in the upcoming elections and make their voices heard at the ballot box.
