The Rajasthan Association of Chicago brought the colors and traditions of Rajasthan to life as it celebrated the festival of Gangaur on Saturday at a clubhouse in Naperville. The event saw enthusiastic participation from more than 50 women, along with their spouses and children, creating a warm and festive community gathering.
Gangaur, one of Rajasthan’s most cherished festivals, is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It symbolizes marital bliss, the arrival of spring and prosperity. Traditionally, women observe fasts, perform rituals, sing folk songs and take part in colorful processions, praying for the well-being and longevity of their husbands or for a loving life partner.
The Naperville celebration reflected these traditions through themed decorations that showcased Rajasthan’s cultural heritage. The event was organized by Neha Patodia, whose attention to detail helped create an authentic and immersive experience for attendees.
Guests enjoyed traditional Rajasthani cuisine, with the highlight being Ghevar, a seasonal dessert closely associated with the festival. The atmosphere came alive with Gangaur folk songs and cultural performances, as participants dressed in vibrant ethnic attire celebrated together.
The event strengthened cultural roots and community bonds among members of the Indian diaspora in the Chicago area.
The association also announced its next major gathering, the annual picnic scheduled for August 1, 2026.
