Indian naval ship Sunayna arrives in Singapore under IOS sagar mission
An Indian naval vessel, INS Sunayna, has reached Singapore’s Changi Naval Base as part of the ongoing IOS SAGAR mission, reinforcing India’s commitment to maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The visit highlights growing defence engagement between India and ASEAN nations.
The mission brings together naval personnel from 16 partner countries, including Singapore, under the theme “One Ocean, One Mission.” The initiative enables joint training and collaborative sailing, enhancing interoperability and operational coordination among friendly navies.
During the visit, the High Commissioner of India to Singapore interacted with officers from partner navies onboard the vessel and praised their role in strengthening regional maritime partnerships. The IOS SAGAR initiative is aligned with India’s broader MAHASAGAR vision—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions—focused on collective security and cooperation.
Earlier in its deployment, INS Sunayna made port calls in Jakarta and Phuket, reflecting India’s sustained outreach across key maritime hubs. The vessel is currently in the sea phase of its deployment, which runs from April to May and includes multiple international engagements.
The participation of ASEAN naval officers is particularly significant as 2026 is being observed as the Year of India-ASEAN cooperation, underlining deepening strategic ties.
Overall, the IOS SAGAR mission represents a practical step toward strengthening maritime security, enhancing regional collaboration, and promoting stability across the Indo-Pacific.
