2,922 seafarers repatriated, Indian vessels safe in Gulf: Govt

The Government of India on Saturday said it has facilitated the safe return of 2,922 Indian seafarers from the Gulf region so far, including 30 repatriations in the past 24 hours, amid ongoing tensions in West Asia.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways stated that all Indian seafarers in the region remain safe, with no incidents reported involving Indian-flagged vessels in the last 24 hours. Authorities continue to maintain close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions abroad, and maritime stakeholders to ensure safety and continuity of operations.

Officials said the DG Shipping Control Room has been actively responding to concerns, handling over 8,300 calls and nearly 17,900 emails since its activation. In the last 24 hours alone, it received 67 calls and 144 emails, reflecting continued engagement with seafarers and their families.

Port operations across India remain normal, with no congestion reported, ensuring that maritime trade flows are not disrupted.

The government also highlighted efforts to safeguard Indian nationals across the region. Indian missions are issuing regular advisories covering local regulations, travel updates, and welfare measures, while maintaining direct contact with community groups and organizations.

Flight connectivity between the Gulf and India is gradually improving, with additional services being introduced. Limited commercial flights are operating from the United Arab Emirates, while services continue from Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Airspace in Iraq is partially open, while Iran allows limited cargo and chartered operations. The government has advised Indian nationals to avoid travel to Iran and encouraged those already there to leave via land routes with embassy support.

So far, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has assisted 2,490 Indians in exiting Iran, underscoring the government’s ongoing evacuation and safety efforts.
