The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with enthusiasm and strong community participation at the Hanuman Temple in Glenview, Illinois, bringing together members of the Indian-American community for a morning dedicated to health, wellness, and spiritual harmony.

The event was organized by the Indian Community Nurturing Trust (ICNT) with the support of several community organizations and the Consulate General of India in Chicago. Despite rainy weather, approximately 100 community members attended the celebration, reflecting the growing popularity and significance of Yoga across the region.

The program began with a welcome address by ICNT representatives, who greeted attendees and acknowledged the support of participating organizations and community leaders. The celebration featured an engaging Yoga session led by experienced instructors from community organizations, who guided participants through a series of Yoga postures and breathing exercises while highlighting the importance of incorporating Yoga into daily life for physical and mental well-being.

Representatives from the Consulate General of India spoke about Yoga’s universal appeal and its role in promoting holistic health, stress reduction, mindfulness, and inner balance. They noted that Yoga has evolved into a global movement that transcends cultural and national boundaries, benefiting millions of people worldwide.

Speakers at the event emphasized that Yoga is one of India’s most enduring gifts to humanity. Rooted in ancient Indian wisdom, Yoga offers a comprehensive approach to health by fostering harmony between the body, mind, and spirit. Participants were encouraged to view Yoga not merely as a form of exercise but as a way of life that promotes overall well-being and personal growth.

Several speakers also reflected on the global recognition Yoga has received over the past decade. They acknowledged the efforts that led to the establishment of the International Day of Yoga, which is now observed annually in countries around the world and has helped increase awareness of Yoga’s many benefits.

Beyond the practice of Yoga itself, the event highlighted the spirit of cooperation within the Indian-American community. Multiple organizations worked together to make the celebration a success, demonstrating the value of collaboration in promoting cultural heritage, health awareness, and community engagement.

Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to come together, practice Yoga, and celebrate a tradition that continues to inspire people across generations and cultures. Many noted that events such as these help strengthen community bonds while encouraging healthier lifestyles.

The celebration concluded on a positive and uplifting note, reinforcing the timeless relevance of Yoga and its continuing contribution to physical fitness, mental wellness, and spiritual development.
