Bringing together women from three generations of the Indian American community, the Chicago Hindu Women’s Network hosted an engaging program titled ‘Women, Wellness & Community’ on Sunday, June 28, at the National India Hub in Schaumburg.
The event drew approximately 130 attendees, including students, young professionals, healthcare experts, entrepreneurs and community leaders, for an afternoon focused on health, personal well-being, leadership and community engagement.
Traditional opening and welcome address
The program began with a traditional Deep Prajwalan, the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a welcome address from Yashaswini Desai, Chair of the Chicago Hindu Women’s Network.
Desai highlighted the organization’s mission of empowering women while fostering leadership, education and community service.
Ayurveda and preventive wellness
The keynote presentation was delivered by Vaidya Deepti Suri, a seventh-generation Ayurvedic physician and NAMA-certified practitioner.
She shared practical guidance on holistic wellness, emphasizing the importance of daily routines, known as Dinacharya, seasonal lifestyle practices, known as Ritucharya, balanced nutrition and the role of Panchakarma in preventive healthcare.
Oral health and overall well-being
Adding a modern healthcare perspective, Dr. Mohini Verma spoke about the close connection between oral health and overall well-being.
She encouraged regular dental checkups and consistent oral hygiene, describing them as essential components of preventive healthcare.
Seva and community support
Community volunteer Archana Agrawal spoke about the importance of seva, or selfless service.
She shared how her charitable initiatives support couples in need by helping organize traditional Hindu weddings, demonstrating how community service can positively impact lives.
Women in civic leadership
The program also featured an inspiring presentation by Bhavini Patel, Village Trustee of Bolingbrook.
Patel encouraged women, particularly younger generations, to become active in civic life and community leadership while preserving Indian cultural values.
Youth performances celebrate culture
The cultural segment showcased performances by two talented high school students.
Kashvi Pandit presented a graceful classical dance, while Ana Rathi delighted the audience with an energetic Punjabi folk performance. The performances highlighted the artistic talent and cultural pride of the younger generation.
Networking and community connection
The event concluded with a networking reception and healthy refreshments, giving attendees an opportunity to interact with speakers and fellow participants in an informal setting.
Participants praised the program for successfully blending health education, cultural heritage, leadership and community service into a meaningful experience.
One attendee described the event as both informative and inspiring, noting that the presentations on Ayurveda, oral health and community initiatives, combined with the cultural performances, made for a well-rounded and engaging program.
The Chicago Hindu Women’s Network continues to organize programs that encourage women’s empowerment, promote healthy living, preserve cultural traditions and strengthen community connections across generations.
