HEALTHCARE

US private investment firm KKR may buy Swedish Medicover’s 66.9% stake in Medicover Hospitals India. KKR has several healthcare investments in India. In parallel, Medicover is also considering spinoff of Medicover Hospitals India through an IPO.

IT/TECH

Indian multinational Adani Enterprises & US electrical systems & components company Jabil/JBL are partnering on large AI datacenters. Jabil engineers, manufactures & distributes electronics systems & components. Jabil recently acquired Hanley Energy Group (US; data center power management) & Mikros Technologies (US; liquid cooling, thermal management) to expand its capabilities in infrastructure development.

Indian multinational Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) & US supply-chain software company Kaleris have extended partnership on AI-enabled automation at several port container terminals (beyond initial 6).

FINANCIAL

Fintech Revolut (UK) is launching its services in India. Phased rollout services include UPI payments, e-money wallets, domestic prepaid cards, multi-currency cards, virtual cards, disposable cards, international money transfers; Lifestyle & RevPoints may be offered later as they will require banking licenses. It plans to base 40% of its global workforce at Indian GCCs.

GOLD MINING

Gold reserves have been found in several locations in Andhra Pradesh (AP), India. Gold-mining projects have been started in some of these areas. Huge capex & specialized equipment are required as gold recovery is only 1 gram/tonne of mined sand. When fully producing, these mines will make only tiny dents in huge Indian gold imports.

SPACE TECHNOLOGY

Indian startup Skyroot Aerospace is getting ready for the 1st private LEO satellite launch in India with its Vikram-1 rocket. Startup was founded by former ISRO engineers. Target launch date is July 12 – August 4. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) & Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) are also building rockets. India has opened up several critical sectors (space, nuclear, etc) to domestic & foreign companies. LEO = Low earth orbit.

SPECIAL TOPIC – PERSONAL FINANCE & AI

AI chatbots have become very common: OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, Perplexity, xAI Grok, etc. Some are built into browsers, e.g. Gemini in Google Search, Grok in X/Twitter, while others may require free signup for basic access & paid subscriptions for comprehensive access. They are good at text questions, but can also answer simple business & math questions. You may have to refine queries to make answers more precise.

Here are several properly formulated personal finance questions in which you can just adjust key details (prompt-engineering):

“What is the EFFECTIVE ANNUAL RATE (EAR) for nominal 6% compounded (c.) MONTHLY?” Answer 6.17%.

“What is the MONTHLY PAYMENT for 30-year $100,000 loan at 6% nominal rate compounded MONTHLY?” Answer $599.55.

“What is the MONTHLY PAYMENT for a 6-year $50,000 car-loan at 3% nominal rate compounded MONTHLY?” Answer $758.11; by calculator $759.68.

“What is the FINAL VALUE of initial $1,000 at 6% compounded in 10 years?” Answer $1,790.85 (annual compounding), $1,819.40 (monthly c.), $1,822.03 (daily c.).

“What is the PRESENT VALUE of final value $1,000 at 6% compounded over 10 years?” Answer $558.39 (annual c.), $549.63 (monthly c.), $548.85 (daily c.).

“What is the PRESENT VALUE of a $10,000 25-year bond with 3.5% coupon paid semiannually when interest rates are at 5%?” Answer $7,872.83. Note that when issued, the bond was bought for close to $10,000; it will pay $175 semiannually & $10,000 on maturity.

“What is the FINAL VALUE of a systematic investment plan (SIP) for $100/month at 8% nominal compounded monthly over 30 years?” Answer $150,029.52 (payments at month beginning); $149,035.94 (payments at month end).
