At least 27 killed, 63 injured in massive fire at Bangkok pub near Chatuchak Market

At least 27 people were killed and 63 others injured, many of them critically, after a devastating fire engulfed a popular pub near Bangkok’s famous Chatuchak Weekend Market on Monday.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after flames rapidly spread through the crowded venue, trapping dozens of patrons inside. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control, but the incident resulted in heavy casualties and widespread damage.

Authorities said many of the injured suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation and were transported to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Several remain in critical condition.

Investigators have launched an inquiry into the cause of the fire and are examining whether the establishment complied with fire safety regulations. Officials are focusing on the availability and accessibility of emergency exits, evacuation procedures and other safety measures after preliminary reports raised concerns about possible shortcomings in escape routes.

The pub is located near Bangkok’s iconic Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of Thailand’s busiest tourist attractions, making the tragedy particularly significant due to the area’s high foot traffic.

Police and fire officials are expected to inspect the building and review surveillance footage, witness accounts and safety records as part of the investigation.

Thai authorities have expressed condolences to the victims’ families and pledged a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire and identify any violations of safety regulations.
