Chicago celebrates Chinmaya Mission’s 75th anniversary with grand Hanuman Chalisa Mahayajna
Thousands of devotees gathered on Saturday as Chinmaya Mission Chicago marked the 75th anniversary of Chinmaya Mission with a grand Hanuman Chalisa Mahayajna, bringing together Hindu organizations from across Chicagoland and the Midwest in a remarkable celebration of devotion, faith, and unity.
The centerpiece of the event was the collective recitation of the ‘Shri Hanuman Chalisa’ 21 times by 21 groups representing various Dharmic organizations. The Mahayajna was dedicated to invoking Lord Hanuman’s blessings for global peace, harmony, and the well-being of humanity.
The celebration was graced by Swami Swaroopananda, Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, who highlighted the spiritual significance of hosting the Mahayajna in Chicago. He explained that “‘Chi’ signifies energy, which comes from Prana, and Prana originates from Vayu (wind),” making Chicago, the Windy City, a fitting place to honor Vayuputra Hanuman.
Sanjay and his wife served as the Mukhya Yajamans for the Mahayajna, participating in all 21 recitations and offering ahuti after each chanting. They described the experience as a profound spiritual blessing.
The Mahotsav was organized under the leadership of Rajul Bhalala and the dedicated team at Chinmaya Mission Chicago. Organizers said preparations took more than a year and involved the efforts of numerous volunteers, with support from several local Hindu organizations. The event attracted thousands of devotees, reflecting the growing spirit of faith, service, and community among Hindus across the Midwest.
Marking a significant milestone in Chinmaya Mission’s global journey, the celebration reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to Sanatana Dharma, spiritual education, and selfless service. Participants praised the Mission for bringing the Hindu community together through prayer, devotion, and cultural heritage, expressing hope that Lord Hanuman’s blessings will continue to inspire strength, wisdom, humility, and unwavering faith.
