In a significant step toward strengthening people-to-people ties and fostering greater cultural understanding, the Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest, in partnership with the Global Indian Diaspora Foundation (GIDF), will host the first-ever India–Israel Friendship Day on Saturday evening, July 26, in Evanston, Illinois.

The inaugural event is designed to celebrate the growing friendship between the Indian and Israeli communities in the Midwest while promoting cultural exchange, dialogue, and community engagement. Organizers say the program aims to bring together members of both communities through shared traditions, arts, cuisine, and personal interaction, reinforcing the values of mutual respect and cooperation.

Among the featured guests will be Consul General of Israel to the Midwest Elad Strohmayer, Deputy Consul General of India Shri K. D. Thokchom, and Deputy Consul General of Israel Delphine Gamburg, underscoring the importance both diplomatic missions place on strengthening grassroots connections between their respective communities.

The evening will showcase the rich cultural heritage of both nations through Indian and Israeli dance performances, interactive cultural workshops, live music, and an opportunity for attendees to experience traditional cuisines from both countries. Organizers hope the event will encourage meaningful interaction between families, young professionals, community leaders, and cultural organizations representing both communities.
Over the years, relations between India and Israel have expanded significantly in areas such as technology, agriculture, innovation, education, healthcare, and defense.
