A migrant worker was killed and another injured after suspected terrorists opened fire on non-local labourers in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening, July 31, 2026, according to preliminary reports.

The incident took place after sundown, when the attackers allegedly targeted the workers and fled the area. Security forces immediately cordoned off the location and launched a search operation to trace the suspected attackers.

One of the injured workers was transported to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag for treatment. Authorities were assessing the security situation in the area while efforts continued to determine the identity and whereabouts of those responsible.

The attack comes amid heightened security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir following a series of incidents targeting civilians and non-local workers. It is reportedly the second targeted attack in the region since July 22.
