The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement on Sunday, August 2, but around 1.35 lakh people remain affected across five districts, while three more deaths pushed the death toll from this year’s floods to 85, according to an official bulletin.

All three latest fatalities were reported from Sivasagar district, which continues to be the worst-affected area in the state.

Sivasagar has more than 55,000 people affected by the floods, followed by Charaideo with around 40,000 and Jorhat with approximately 22,000 affected residents. Despite a gradual improvement in the overall flood situation, several communities continue to face waterlogging and disruption to daily life.

Floodwaters have affected homes, roads, agricultural land and other infrastructure in several parts of Assam. Authorities and disaster response agencies remain engaged in relief and rescue operations while monitoring water levels and vulnerable areas.

The latest fatalities have highlighted the continuing risks faced by residents even as floodwaters begin to recede in some locations. Officials are assessing damage and coordinating relief measures for affected communities.

Assam experiences recurring floods during the monsoon season, with the Brahmaputra and its tributaries frequently overflowing and affecting large parts of the state. This year’s flooding has once again caused significant loss of life and widespread disruption.

Authorities continue to urge residents in vulnerable areas to follow official advisories and move to safer locations when required.
