
Mexican teenager with reported IQ of 162 draws attention for extraordinary academic achievements

Adhara Pérez Sánchez, a Mexican academic prodigy whose IQ has been widely reported at 162, has attracted renewed international attention for an extraordinary educational journey that began at an exceptionally young age.
Born in Mexico in 2011, Pérez Sánchez reportedly demonstrated an unusual aptitude for mathematics and science as a young child. Her academic progress accelerated dramatically after her family sought specialized education following difficulties she experienced in conventional schools.
Reports say she completed primary school at age five, middle school at six and high school at eight. She subsequently pursued higher education in engineering and mathematics, with reports documenting degrees in systems engineering and industrial engineering with a mathematics specialization. More recent reports have said she earned a master’s degree in engineering at just 11.
Her reported IQ score of 162 is at the center of much of the international interest surrounding her. That figure is higher than the approximately 160 IQ scores commonly attributed to Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking.
There is, however, an important qualification to the comparison.
Einstein and Hawking did not have publicly documented results from standardized IQ tests. The scores of around 160 frequently attributed to the two legendary physicists are estimates rather than verified test results. Pérez Sánchez’s reported score, therefore, should not be interpreted as scientifically proving that she is more intelligent than either Einstein or Hawking.
Nevertheless, a reported IQ of 162 at such a young age represents an extraordinary achievement. More significant than the numerical comparison is what Pérez Sánchez has reportedly accomplished academically while still a child.
Her interests have extended particularly to mathematics, engineering, science and space exploration. She has expressed an ambition to work with NASA and eventually become an astronaut, with Mars exploration among her stated aspirations.
Her story also includes significant challenges. Reports have described difficulties in conventional schooling and bullying during her early years. Her experience has subsequently become part of a broader discussion about recognizing gifted children and creating educational environments suited to students whose abilities develop far ahead of traditional grade levels.
Pérez Sánchez’s achievements have received recognition in Mexico, including attention from the country’s Senate for her academic accomplishments at an unusually young age.
The comparison with Einstein and Hawking makes for a compelling headline, but the real significance of Pérez Sánchez’s story lies elsewhere. Einstein and Hawking became historic figures through groundbreaking contributions to physics over decades. Pérez Sánchez is still at the beginning of her journey.
Her continuing education and ambitions may ultimately provide the more meaningful measure of her potential.
