Indian Seniors of Chicago celebrate Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan

Indian Seniors of Chicago (ISC) celebrated India’s Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan with patriotic spirit and cultural enthusiasm on August 15, 2026, at Lakshmi Hall of Manav Seva Mandir. Nearly 360 members attended the gathering.
The program began with members celebrating birthdays through Ganesh Stuti, Hanuman Chalisa and the popular birthday song “Baar Baar Ye Din Aaye.” Birthday celebrants were presented with bouquets, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.
The organization’s July financial report was presented, including details of income and expenditure. Members who had provided financial assistance to ISC were also acknowledged.
Representatives of Manav Seva Mandir appealed to members to support a fundraising dinner scheduled for October 10, 2026, benefiting the temple and community center. Information was also shared about the Hindu Moksha Dham project being developed in the Chicago area.
The gathering observed two minutes of silence in memory of recently deceased members and relatives, offering prayers and condolences to their families.
Raksha Bandhan celebrated
The spirit of Raksha Bandhan was highlighted through a special ceremony in which 10 brothers and 10 sisters participated. Rakhis were tied as a symbol of affection, family bonds and mutual protection, followed by the distribution of sweets. The celebration included the traditional song “Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko.”
Patriotic Independence Day celebration
The Independence Day segment was organized as a tribute to India’s journey and achievements. Members also reflected on the significance of India’s Independence celebrations and America’s 250th anniversary, highlighting the deep connections between the two countries and their people.
A group of approximately 30 members participated in a symbolic patriotic parade carrying the Indian Tricolour. The participants raised slogans including “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” “Shaheedon Amar Raho” and “Vande Mataram,” creating an atmosphere of national pride.
The chief guest was formally welcomed before the Tricolour was unfurled. Members joined in singing Vande Mataram and India’s national anthem, Jana Gana Mana, followed by patriotic songs performed by several members.
The celebration reflected the strong emotional connection of Chicago’s Indian senior community with India’s Independence Day and its enduring cultural traditions.
