Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday met with a US delegation led by Walter Russell Mead, distinguished fellow at the Hudson Institute, to discuss ongoing geopolitical developments and matters of mutual interest between India and the United States.

The meeting, held in New Delhi, brought together representatives from prominent US institutions, including the Hudson Institute, American Enterprise Institute, Eagle Capital Management, Crow Holdings, and Rationalwave Capital Partners. The discussions focused on strengthening the India-US partnership in a rapidly evolving global environment.

“Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs @nsitharaman interacted with a US delegation led by Mr Walter Russell Mead, @HudsonInstitute, in New Delhi today. Discussions focused on geopolitical developments and shared interests within the India-US partnership,” the Ministry of Finance said in a statement on X.

The meeting comes amid ongoing trade negotiations between India and the US, following concerns over tariffs. Earlier this month, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer praised India’s “pragmatic” approach in talks and indicated that both sides are striving to reach a mutually beneficial trade deal. Greer emphasized the reciprocal nature of tariffs and highlighted the continued dialogue on trade matters.

The engagement also follows high-level interactions on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and reaffirmed India’s critical role in US strategic and economic interests.

The discussions underscore the importance of India-US cooperation not only in trade but also in strategic, economic, and geopolitical domains, highlighting the two nations’ shared priorities and commitment to sustaining a strong bilateral partnership.
