India, Brazil sign MoU to boost postal cooperation and digital transformation
India and Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the postal sector, with a focus on digital transformation and inclusive service delivery, the Ministry of Communications said on Sunday.
The agreement was signed by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Brazil’s Communications Minister Frederico de Siqueira Filho during the State Visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to India.
The MoU establishes a broad framework for collaboration between India’s Department of Posts and Brazil’s Ministry of Communications. It aims to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries by promoting knowledge exchange, operational cooperation and innovation in postal services.
Under the agreement, both nations will share best practices in postal policies, operational efficiency and service management. They will work together to strengthen universal service obligations and improve addressing systems to enhance last-mile connectivity.
A key pillar of the partnership is digital transformation. The MoU includes cooperation in e-commerce logistics, postal financial services and the modernization of delivery networks to meet evolving consumer and business demands. These areas have become increasingly significant in the rapidly changing global marketplace.
India will share its experience in large-scale postal reforms, particularly in digital platforms, e-commerce integration and citizen-centric public services. The collaboration is expected to enhance operational efficiency and improve the financial sustainability of postal networks in both countries.
The agreement also emphasizes capacity building through structured training programmes, exchange visits of officials and experts, and joint workshops. Both sides will establish mechanisms for regular information sharing and collaboration on strategic projects of mutual interest.
Additionally, India and Brazil have agreed to strengthen coordination at multilateral forums, including the Universal Postal Union, to advance shared priorities in global postal governance.
According to the Ministry of Communications, the MoU reflects the shared commitment of both countries to modernize postal systems and leverage them as tools for economic growth, financial inclusion and efficient public service delivery.
The agreement will remain valid for five years and includes a provision for automatic renewal. Implementation will be carried out in accordance with the laws and regulations of both countries.
