India happy to host next AI Action Summit: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Tuesday that India would be happy to host the next AI Action Summit, aiming to build on the momentum generated at the current event in Paris.

In his concluding address, PM Modi highlighted the strong consensus among stakeholders, emphasizing a shared vision and purpose in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

“Today’s discussions have made one thing clear – there is unity in vision and unity in purpose across all stakeholders,” he said.

Welcoming the establishment of the AI Foundation and the Council for Sustainable AI, PM Modi congratulated France and President Emmanuel Macron for these initiatives and assured India’s full support.

He also proposed making the “Global Partnership for AI” more inclusive, particularly by incorporating the perspectives, priorities, and needs of the Global South.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi underscored India’s commitment to developing AI applications for public benefit and highlighted the country’s vast AI talent pool.

“India is developing AI applications for the public good and has one of the world’s largest AI talent pools,” he stated.

He also reaffirmed India’s willingness to share its expertise to ensure that AI serves as a force for good and benefits everyone.

PM Modi noted that India is building its own large language model (LLM) tailored to its diverse linguistic landscape. He also spoke about India’s unique public-private partnership model, which pools computing resources and makes them available to startups and researchers at an affordable cost.

While acknowledging the positive potential of AI, PM Modi also cautioned against its risks, stressing the need for fairness and inclusivity in AI development.

“We must build quality data sets free from biases, democratize technology, and create people-centric applications. Concerns related to cybersecurity, disinformation, and deepfakes must be addressed. Additionally, AI must be rooted in local ecosystems to be effective and useful,” he emphasized.

With AI evolving at an unprecedented pace and being adopted globally at an accelerated rate, PM Modi underscored the deep interdependence between nations in navigating this transformative technology.
