Interim trade framework to deliver mutually beneficial India–US partnership: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday welcomed the newly finalised India–US interim trade framework, saying it would pave the way for a mutually beneficial economic partnership while expanding opportunities for Indian businesses.

Posting on social media platform X, Jaishankar said the framework would enhance market access for Indian exporters and open new avenues for trade and manufacturing. He emphasised that the agreement aligns with India’s “Make in India” vision by creating fresh opportunities for domestic industry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also hailed the development as “great news” for both countries. Thanking US President Donald Trump for his personal commitment to stronger bilateral ties, Modi said the framework reflects the deepening trust and dynamism of the India–US relationship.

He noted that the agreement would particularly benefit farmers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), start-ups, entrepreneurs and fishermen, while generating large-scale employment for women and youth. According to the Prime Minister, the pact would also strengthen resilient supply chains and contribute to global economic growth.

Modi further highlighted that India and the US share a commitment to innovation, and the framework would deepen collaboration in investment, technology and strategic industries. He reiterated India’s goal of building a “Viksit Bharat” while fostering future-oriented global partnerships.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal separately described the agreement as a major milestone in economic cooperation between the two nations. He said it would help both countries work closely toward sustainable growth for businesses and workers.

Goyal added that the framework could effectively open access to a $30 trillion market for Indian exporters, especially MSMEs, farmers and fishermen. He projected that increased exports would generate lakhs of new jobs for women and young professionals across sectors.

The interim agreement also reduces US tariffs on Indian goods to 18 per cent, marking a significant shift in bilateral trade dynamics while negotiations for a broader trade pact continue.
