Macron’s Paris soirée brings together PM Modi, US Vice President Vance

French President Emmanuel Macron greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a warm embrace upon his arrival in Paris for a dinner at the Elysee Palace.

Macron welcomed Modi as they exchanged friendly remarks before beginning discussions. The high-profile dinner also saw the presence of US Vice President J.D. Vance, along with other global leaders.

PM Modi, Vice President Vance, and President Macron met on the sidelines of the dinner hosted by the French President at the Elysee Palace.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with French President Emmanuel Macron and US Vice President J.D. Vance,” the Prime Minister’s Office stated.

Other notable guests at the working dinner included Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Beyond strengthening bilateral ties, PM Modi’s visit to France includes extensive discussions with Macron on strategic collaboration, technological innovation, and artificial intelligence.

PM Modi will co-chair the AI Action Summit with President Macron, bringing together global leaders and industry executives to explore AI-driven advancements for public benefit. A key diplomatic milestone of the visit will be the inauguration of India’s first consulate in Marseille, marking a significant step in Indo-French relations.

France’s warm reception of PM Modi underscored the importance of the visit, with Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu welcoming him at the airport.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared the update on X, stating, “PM Narendra Modi arrived in Paris to a special welcome. Warmly received by Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu of France at the airport.”

The visit aligns with ongoing efforts to deepen the India-France strategic partnership, including reviewing progress on the Horizon 2047 Roadmap, which focuses on long-term cooperation in key sectors.

During his stay, PM Modi will travel to Cadarache with Macron to visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, a major international collaboration in nuclear fusion research. He will also pay tribute to Indian soldiers who fought in the World Wars at the Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille.

Following his engagements in France, PM Modi will embark on the second leg of his tour, traveling to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump. The visit aims to further strengthen India’s global partnerships, focusing on key areas such as technology, defence, and economic cooperation.
