Piyush Goyal urges Indian businesses to unlock full potential of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Startup India’ in Qatar

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday urged Indian entrepreneurs to fully leverage flagship initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Startup India’ to deepen economic ties between India and Qatar.

During an interaction with the Indian business delegation in Doha, Goyal encouraged companies to harness innovation, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship to unlock new opportunities for shared prosperity. “We must strengthen partnerships by leveraging transformative initiatives such as Make in India and Startup India,” he said.

Addressing the Indian community event, Goyal praised the diaspora for strengthening bilateral relations and emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, urging the community to explore avenues for collaboration in trade, culture, and technology.

Highlighting India’s growing digital footprint, Goyal also launched the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) at Lulu Hypermarket in Doha, calling it a “game-changer” for digital payments and cross-border commerce. UPI will now be available across Qatar National Bank point-of-sale terminals, simplifying transactions for Indian travellers and fostering trade and tourism.

Goyal’s visit reinforces India’s focus on expanding its economic diplomacy in the Gulf, as Qatar remains a key energy and investment partner with growing trade potential in technology, finance, and innovation sectors.
