Success of ‘Startup India’ means that today’s India is dynamic, future-ready: PM Modi
The success of the ‘Startup India’ initiative reflects that today’s India is dynamic, confident, and future-ready, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial ecosystem that nurtures dreams and contributes to the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India).
Marking nine successful years of ‘Startup India,’ PM Modi described it as a landmark initiative that has redefined innovation, entrepreneurship, and growth in the country.
“This is a programme very close to my heart, as it has emerged as a powerful way of furthering youth empowerment. Over the past nine years, this transformative programme has empowered countless youngsters, turning their innovative ideas into successful startups,” PM Modi shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Indian startups have become a driving force across multiple sectors, including technology-driven solutions, rural innovations, healthcare advancements, biotech breakthroughs, fintech, edtech, clean energy, and sustainable technology. These startups are solving global challenges while creating employment opportunities and advancing India’s quest for self-reliance, he emphasised.
The ‘Startup India’ initiative has propelled India to become one of the largest and most vibrant startup ecosystems in the world. “This was when people doubted India’s ability to thrive in this system just a decade ago,” PM Modi noted.
The government has played a pivotal role in nurturing this ecosystem, leaving no stone unturned to promote a culture of startups. With more than 1.59 lakh startups recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) as of January 15, India has firmly established itself as the third-largest startup ecosystem globally.
Between 2016 and October 31, 2024, these recognised startups have created over 16.6 lakh direct jobs, significantly contributing to employment generation across the nation.
PM Modi highlighted the importance of policies focusing on ‘Ease of Doing Business,’ enhanced access to resources, and robust support systems for startups at every stage of their journey.
“We are actively promoting innovation and incubation centres so that our youngsters become risk-takers. I have personally been regularly interacting with upcoming startups,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also reiterated that this initiative is a testament to India’s youthful energy and innovative spirit, positioning the nation as a global leader in entrepreneurship and technological innovation.
