US calls for fair and reciprocal trade in India talks

A senior US diplomat has called for “fair and reciprocal market access” in talks with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, amid ongoing negotiations on a potential US-India trade agreement.

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau emphasized this principle during a meeting in Washington, according to State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce. The issue has long been central to US trade demands, transcending administrations.

Landau also raised concerns about illegal migration and counternarcotics cooperation, referencing past instances of Indians deported from the US.

The talks follow recent visits by Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and come as a trade deal is reportedly nearing completion. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace and stability.
