Bollywood nostalgia and a literary honor mark special day for DuPage seniors
By: Jayanti Oza
The DuPage Senior Citizen Council hosted a lively cultural event at Golconda Restaurant in Naperville, Illinois, last week as part of its popular Senior Lunch Program. The highlight of the afternoon was a soulful live performance by ‘Panch Sur Beats,’ a local musical group known for reviving the golden era of Bollywood. The group performed beloved songs from the 1960s and 70s—classics made famous by icons like Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, and Kumar Sanu—filling the room with joy and prompting many seniors to dance and sing along. The performance featured Tushar and Nisha Chotalia, Raj and Smita Rai, Jayant Shah, Chetan Ved, and Vibhakar Parikh, with sound support by Shailendra Bhatnagar.
In a special moment during the event, veteran journalist Jayanti Oza, Midwest representative of Manish Media (Jaipur), presented a copy of ‘India Calling 2022’—a book celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi, authored by Chandmal Kumavat—to site managers Sushila Ray and Anjali Khare. The event blended cultural nostalgia with a gesture of literary diplomacy, creating an unforgettable afternoon for attendees.
