Chicago INDO-US Lions continue 11 years of environmental service with Illinois youth
The Chicago INDO-US Lions Club, in collaboration with LEU, the East Leyden Service Club, and the East Leyden Asian American Affinity Group, successfully organized another impactful Environmental Community Service Project, marking the club’s 11th consecutive year of environmental service with Illinois youth.
The event, held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Franklin Park (60131) last week, brought together students from two local schools and Lions Club members for a morning dedicated to community improvement, environmental protection, and civic engagement.
Arriving by school buses, more than sixty enthusiastic students were divided into small groups to carry out a variety of hands-on service activities. Teams cleaned the football field, nearby streets, and residential areas—particularly focusing on neighborhoods with elderly residents—while others led recycling efforts around the school campus.
One special group revisited a planting site established last year, proudly adding eight new plants to continue nurturing the club’s “green legacy.”
Every participant played a vital role, including special-needs youth, who helped sort and separate recyclables. The inclusive nature of the project ensured that everyone contributed to the collective goal of creating a cleaner, greener community.
Organizers provided all necessary materials like gloves, trash clippers, color-coded garbage bags, and small plants to make the event both safe and effective.
This long-standing collaboration between the Chicago INDO-US Lions and Illinois youth continues to inspire values of environmental stewardship, teamwork, and civic responsibility, empowering the next generation to take pride in serving their community.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all volunteers, participating schools, and community partners for their dedication and effort.
Special recognition was given to Lion Kishen, Lion Shina, Lion Dulce and Lion Suthair for their exceptional volunteering and leadership during the event.
