Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi spoke to IndoUS Tribune about key issues affecting Illinois residents, including Black History Month celebrations, Medicaid cuts, and threats to the U.S. Postal Service.

Over the weekend, Congressman Krishnamoorthi joined leaders across Chicagoland to celebrate Black History Month at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s Saturday forum. Emphasizing the need for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), he stated, “If there was no Jim Crow, we would not need DEI. If there was no slavery, we would not need DEI. If we did not have discrimination of any kind whatsoever, if we lived as God would want us to live, we would not need DEI.” He underscored that DEI is about creating a true meritocracy by ensuring equal opportunities for all.

In Washington, Krishnamoorthi condemned a GOP budget proposal that threatens to cut Medicaid funding by up to $1 trillion, potentially stripping healthcare coverage from 862,774 Illinois residents. “It is unconscionable that Republicans would even suggest slashing Medicaid to give tax cuts to billionaires,” he stated. He warned that these cuts would jeopardize seniors’ nursing home care, prevent parents from treating sick children, and undermine healthcare facilities across Illinois.

In a letter to Trump, the committee expressed concerns over the administration’s reported intentions to fire the bipartisan Postal Board of Governors and absorb the Postal Service into the Department of Commerce. Krishnamoorthi highlighted the vital role the Postal Service plays in delivering life-saving medications, mail-in ballots, and financial documents, especially in underserved rural areas. “We urge you to immediately withdraw all plans to dismantle one of our nation’s most cherished public institutions and uphold the Postal Service’s independent status as required by law,” he stated.

As Congressman Krishnamoorthi continues to advocate for Illinois residents, he remains committed to promoting inclusivity, protecting healthcare access, and safeguarding essential public services.
