Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthy Joins Thousands in Celebrating Day 3 of Chicago Hindu Mahotsav’s Vibrant Navratri Raas Garba
Chicago, IL – The Chicago Hindu Mahotsav proudly hosted its 15th annual Navratri Raas Garba event, bringing together more than 1,000 attendees for a colorful and joyful
celebration of culture and devotion. On Saturday, Day 3 of the event, U.S.
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthy joined the festivities, marking a significant moment
for the local Hindu community as they honored Goddess Durga and celebrated the
festival of Navratri.
The event was filled with the rich sounds of Garba and Dandiya Raas as participants in
vibrant traditional attire danced to music that filled the atmosphere with energy and joy.
Congressman Krishnamoorthy not only attended but also actively participated in the
dance, demonstrating his commitment to cultural unity and appreciation of the Hindu
tradition.
Addressing the audience, Congressman Krishnamoorthy remarked, “Navratri is not just
a celebration of our ancient traditions but a reminder of the unity and diversity that is at
the heart of Hinduism. As families and communities come together, Navratri encourages
us to foster a passion for harmony and to celebrate our cultural identity with pride.”
Speaking at the occasion, Rakesh Malhotra, President of the Global Indian Diaspora
Foundation, highlighted the deeper significance of Navratri and Raas Garba: “This event
is far more than just a celebration of tradition. It serves as a powerful opportunity for the community to come together, reconnect with our roots, and celebrate our heritage. It’s a chance to share our cherished values with the younger generation, ensuring they grow up with a deep sense of pride in their cultural roots and carry forward the legacy of our rich traditions.”
Prominent community leaders from across Chicagoland were present at the Navratri
celebrations, underscoring the event’s status as a vital cultural gathering for the region.
The festival, which featured a vibrant blend of traditional dance, flavorful cuisine, and a
palpable sense of unity, captured the true essence of Navratri, according to Shailesh
Rajput, Founder of the Chicago Hindu Mahotsav. “The atmosphere was electric,
embodying the spirit of devotion and celebration that defines this festival,” Rajput stated.
He further emphasized the significance of the organization in fostering cultural
exchange within the Indian American community. “Over the years, the Chicago Hindu
Mahotsav has become a cornerstone for our community, hosting a variety of Indian and
American cultural events. We aim to bridge traditions while celebrating both our heritage
and the values we share with our fellow Americans,” Rajput added.
This year’s Navratri Raas Garba continues through October 12 at Bloomingdale, IL,
offering more opportunities for the community to come together in celebration of faith,
