Directors dance dhamaka lights up Elgin with over 250 performers
The Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin was filled with music, movement, and celebration on April 19 as over 250 dancers took the stage for the 11th Annual Showcase presented by Nache Mayuri. Titled Directors Dance Dhamaka (D3), the event brought together participants from five Chicagoland locations—Libertyville, Lake Zurich, Streamwood, Schaumburg, and Naperville—for an afternoon of Bollywood-inspired performances.
Spanning over three hours, the program featured seven themed segments, each paying tribute to prominent Indian film directors. Audiences witnessed interpretations of cinematic styles from legends such as Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, Farah Khan, Subhash Ghai, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and more.
Dancers ranged in age from 3 to 70, underscoring the inclusive and multigenerational nature of the event. The showcase began with a Welcome Dance performed by winners of the 2024 Jalwa competition alongside choreographer and director Mayuri Rajesh. The afternoon concluded with a grand finale featuring all performers on stage together.
The program was co-hosted by Ankit Mahajan and Bhairavi Thakkar, who kept the audience engaged with interactive segments and light-hearted commentary.
In addition to the dance performances, the event included raffles and community interaction activities. Parents, volunteers, and support staff played a significant role in the event’s execution.
Jyoti Salwan, whose child performed in the show, noted, “Nache Mayuri is a great platform for kids, teens, and adults to learn and showcase their dancing skills. Mayuri is passionate and knows how to teach—from little kids all the way to adults.”
The annual showcase continues to be a cultural highlight in the South Asian community calendar in the greater Chicago area.
