FIIDS to celebrate India’s Independence Day in Morton Grove with a focus on democracy
The Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) will celebrate India’s Independence Day on August 24 in Morton Grove, Illinois. The event will feature the Consul General of India in Chicago and the Mayor of Morton Grove, emphasizing the strong connection between the Indian American community and local leaders. This year’s theme, “Resiliency of Democracy,” highlights India’s status as the world’s largest democracy. FIIDS, a nonprofit organization, advocates for US-India relations and the Indian diaspora through research and policy analysis. Their efforts include raising awareness on critical issues and influencing policy discussions.
The celebration will also acknowledge the democratic values shared by India and the US, with speeches from the Consul General and the Mayor on the contributions of the Indian community locally. This event follows FIIDS’s Advocacy Day in April 2023, which engaged over four million Indian Americans in political outreach and discussions on significant issues like US-India technology initiatives and immigration.
The Independence Day event will also spotlight FIIDS’s
ongoing advocacy for immigration reform and support for Indian diaspora needs. The organization continues to foster multicultural relationships and support the next generation of leaders through its internship programs. Overall, the event aims to celebrate the enduring spirit of democracy and the vibrant role of the Indian American community in the US.
