As the world continues to condemn the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir (BHARAT) that claimed the lives of over 26 innocent Hindu pilgrims, the Houston Indian-American community gathered in solemn unity to honor the martyrs and stand against the rising tide of global terrorism.

The tribute took place at Sugar Land Memorial Park, where hundreds gathered for a candlelight vigil organized by prominent community groups including VHPA, Hindus of Greater Houston, Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora, ABMMS, DISHA, HinduPACT, Hindu Action, and others. The event reflected a broad coalition of Indian-Americans, Nepali community leaders, and international supporters, united in grief and resolve.
Participants held placards with messages such as “Stop Hindu Genocide,” “USA Stands with India Against Terror,” “Hindu Lives Matter,” “Indo-Americans Against Terrorism,” and “We Will Never Give in to Fear.” Many wore Tilak as a mark of spiritual and cultural identity, applied by volunteers at the vigil.

Global condemnation of Pakistan-sponsored terror

The Pahalgam attack, widely believed to be orchestrated by Pakistan-sponsored global terror networks, has been condemned by nations across the globe, including the USA, France, UK, Russia, Germany, Israel, UAE, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Nepal, Maldives, Jordan, Qatar, and many others. The international outrage reflects a growing recognition of the threat posed by transnational extremist ideologies.

Arun Mundra, a senior leader with VHPA and ABMMS, noted that messages of support and condemnation of terrorism have poured in from around the world in response to his appeal. “This is not just about India or Hindus. This is about humanity under attack,” he said.

Speakers demand global accountability

Several community leaders and speakers addressed the crowd, emphasizing the need for international cooperation against terrorismAmit Raina of the Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora spoke emotionally about the long-standing persecution of the Kashmiri Hindu community and the ongoing threat of genocide against Sanatan Dharma followers.

Prashant K. Sona of the Consulate General of India in Houston affirmed India’s zero-tolerance stance against terrorism, echoing the Indian government’s commitment to justice. He assured the community that the voices of the diaspora are being heard.

Solidarity from Nepal

Representing the Nepali community, Pujari Dilip Shastri from the Pashupatinath Temple expressed grief over the loss of two Nepali citizens in the same attack. Speaking to Arun Mundra, he emphasized that no citizen of any country should ever fall victim to such barbaric acts. “This is a matter of humanity, not just nationality,” he said.

A broader message: Rejecting division and hatred

While many news outlets and political actors have attempted to frame the tragedy in religious terms, organizers of the Houston vigil were clear in their message: this attack must not be used to fuel division among communities. The ideology of “Two-Nation Theory,” recently echoed by Pakistan Army Chief Aseem Munir, suggesting that Hindus and Muslims cannot coexist, was categorically rejected by participants as a dangerous, outdated, and divisive narrative.

“Let us not fall into the trap set by the masterminds of terror. This is not about religion — this is about global terrorism,” emphasized one speaker, calling for unity across all peace-loving communities.

Hope in justice, faith in leadership

Participants expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government would respond firmly and appropriately, just as it did after previous attacks with the surgical strikes and Balakot air strikes. The Pahalgam massacre, they affirmed, must not go unanswered.

IndoUS Tribune joins the global chorus in standing with the victims of this tragedy and condemns terrorism in all its forms. We reaffirm our support for peace, justice, and the dignity of all human life.
