The Consulate General of India, Chicago, hosted Kala Utsav 2024 on August 31, 2024, at the Yellow Box Theatre in Naperville, showcasing the theme of unity in diversity through an array of vibrant cultural performances. The event attracted nearly 400 attendees from the US Midwest.

The program commenced with Consul General Somnath Ghosh and Ward 10 Alderwoman Ms. Shweta Baid lighting a traditional lamp. Consul General Ghosh expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries, members of the diplomatic community, Indian American organizations, and media groups. He highlighted the Consulate’s ongoing commitment to promoting Indian languages, cultures, and arts at universities and institutions. Ghosh also emphasized that Kala Utsav, while significant, is part of a broader effort to spotlight emerging artists and strengthen Indian-American cultural ties. Alderwoman Baid also addressed the audience.

The diverse performances included Kathak by Sargam Kathak School, Laavni Folk Dance by Team Avishkar, Mohiniyattam by Bharathanjali School of Dance, and many more. Ms. Prachi Jaitly served as the emcee for the event. All performers were recognized with certificates for their contributions.
The event was supported by the Indian diaspora, with refreshments sponsored by Mr. Rakesh Malhotra and Mr. Chetan Notaria, and flyer design assistance provided by Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhalwan.
