Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi blasts Senate budget deal, citing threat to health care affordability; presses Trump administration for transparency in Epstein investigation

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), a senior member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued a series of strong statements this week sharply criticizing the Senate’s newly passed government funding agreement and raising fresh demands for accountability in the ongoing investigation into the Jeffrey Epstein trafficking network.

Opposes Senate deal, calls it a failure to protect American families

Congressman Krishnamoorthi voted against the government funding deal negotiated in the Republican-controlled Senate, arguing that the agreement “fails the basic test of protecting Americans’ health care.”

“Too many families in Illinois are already stretched thin,” he said, warning that the deal does nothing to prevent premiums from rising even higher. “The American people shouldn’t have to trust Donald Trump’s promises to keep their coverage affordable. We need real action that lowers costs and restores stability for working families.”

From his district office in Schaumburg, Krishnamoorthi reinforced his stance, stating that the affordability of health care “cannot depend on Donald Trump’s promises.”

“Time and again, Donald Trump has proven that his promises aren’t worth the paper they’re written on,” he said. Citing conversations with families, doctors and nurses across Illinois, he stressed that rising health care costs—driven by policy moves under the Trump administration—remain one of the most pressing crises facing working Americans.

“I cannot support any deal built on delay, deception, and empty promises,” he added.

Calls on Trump administration to secure testimony from Andrew Mountbatten Windsor in Epstein investigation

In Washington, Congressman Krishnamoorthi also sent a formal letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Attorney General Pam Bondi urging the Trump administration to pursue testimony from Andrew Mountbatten Windsor in connection with federal investigations into Jeffrey Epstein’s network of sexual abuse and trafficking.

Calling for “full transparency and accountability,” Krishnamoorthi emphasized that survivors and the American public deserve to know the full extent of all individuals who may have been aware of or involved in Epstein’s crimes.

He noted that under the U.S.–U.K. Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), the United States has clear authority to request cooperation from the British government for witness testimony, records, and other evidence.

“The most transparent and credible course of action would be for Mr. Mountbatten Windsor to appear voluntarily and provide full, sworn testimony,” Krishnamoorthi wrote. If the British royal were to enter U.S. jurisdiction, he added, the administration “must be prepared to compel his cooperation through lawful subpoena authority or other appropriate mechanisms.”

Krishnamoorthi expressed concern over recent delays in releasing the long-awaited “Epstein Files,” warning that any perception of shielding powerful individuals would erode public trust.

“The pursuit of Mr. Mountbatten Windsor’s testimony represents an essential test of whether this administration will uphold the principle that no person—no matter how wealthy, well-connected, or titled—is above the law,” he said.

Advocating for accountability and protecting families

With simultaneous pressure on both domestic policy and international cooperation, Congressman Krishnamoorthi has positioned himself as one of the most vocal critics of the Trump administration on matters of health care affordability and transparency in high-profile criminal investigations.

He concluded that survivors of Epstein’s crimes, as well as American families struggling with rising health care costs, “deserve nothing less than full truth and decisive leadership.”
