Chicago, IL – September 21, 2025 – The Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP) Chicago Chapter hosted a grand community gathering to mark three historic occasions: the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Telangana Liberation Day, and Vishwakarma Diwas. The event reflected both pride in India’s progress under PM Modi’s leadership and the cultural heritage cherished by the Indian diaspora in the United States.

More than 100 attendees joined the celebration, which blended cultural fervor, history, and recognition of community service. A ceremonial cake-cutting, collective prayers for the Prime Minister’s long life, and spirited tributes underscored the evening’s theme of unity and service.

Honoring Modi’s Leadership and Legacy

Rakesh Malhotra delivered a detailed presentation on Modi ji’s journey—from his early years as an RSS karyakarta to becoming India’s longest-serving Prime Minister. He highlighted landmark achievements between 2014 and 2025, including transformative governance, global recognition, abrogation of Article 370, and the fulfillment of the Ram Mandir dream in Ayodhya. The presentation also showcased books authored by Modi, offering insight into his philosophy and vision.

Dr. Bharat Barai’s Keynote Address

Dr. Bharat Barai delivered a stirring keynote speech, congratulating Prime Minister Modi on his 75th birthday and praising his unwavering vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). He emphasized how Modi ji’s leadership has redefined India’s global stature, noting India’s growing influence in international diplomacy, defense, and economic forums such as the G20.

Dr. Barai also drew strong historical contrasts, questioning why earlier governments failed to resolve critical national issues such as the abrogation of Article 370 or the construction of the Ram Mandir. He reminded the audience that while India had the opportunity to secure a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, it was instead conceded to China under Nehru’s leadership. He credited Modi ji with ushering in an era of decisive governance, calling his tenure a turning point in modern Indian history.

He further stressed that Modi ji’s rise symbolizes how a leader from humble beginnings can transform a nation’s destiny, resonating deeply with the diaspora’s values of discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance.

Remembering Telangana Liberation and Vishwakarma Diwas

The program also commemorated Telangana Liberation Day, with Srinivas Bodige recalling the sacrifices that integrated Hyderabad into the Indian Union and highlighting its relevance in preserving the nation’s unity. Vishwakarma Diwas was celebrated as a tribute to the dignity of labor and the divine architect, reflecting inclusivity and cultural richness embraced by the diaspora.

Recognizing Community Contributions

The evening honored several OFBJP volunteers for their tireless efforts in strengthening community ties. A special recognition was given to Shri Hasmukh Patel, associated with the RSS, ABVP, BJP, and OFBJP since 1964, for his lifelong dedication. In his address, he emphasized the vital role of karyakartas (volunteers) in sustaining the organization.

Senior leader Hasmukh Shah was also honored, recalling his early days working with Modi ji as an RSS karyakarta and underscoring the discipline and sacrifice central to BJP’s growth.

Dr. Bharat Barai was felicitated with a shawl for his community leadership and decades of guidance to the diaspora. The event concluded with the presentation of scarves to local leaders and volunteers, recognizing their commitment to service and unity.
