Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi condemns violence, challenges Trump policies, and defends Illinois families

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) is stepping up efforts to defend constitutional rights, protect vulnerable communities, and push back against policies he views as harmful to American families.

In Santa Clara, California, Krishnamoorthi visited the Bay Area Shiv Durga Temple after a break-in and act of vandalism that rattled the local Hindu American community. He condemned the attack as a direct assault on religious freedom and met with temple leaders to show solidarity, stressing that every American deserves to worship in peace without fear.

On Capitol Hill, Krishnamoorthi introduced the Stop Trump’s Abuse of Power Act with Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D-MI), legislation aimed at blocking former President Donald Trump from deploying the National Guard in Chicago without state approval. He argued that the military should never be used as a political tool, warning that such actions would create chaos rather than security.

Krishnamoorthi also denounced Trump’s reported plan to use Naval Station Great Lakes as a hub for mass immigration raids in Chicago, calling it reckless and unconstitutional. He vowed continued oversight to prevent wrongful detentions and the separation of families.

In addition, he unveiled the Bringing Back Benefits Act, legislation to reverse nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts and $186 billion in food assistance cuts that he said have already hurt Illinois families. He urged Congress to restore these programs, calling them essential lifelines for working households.

From safeguarding religious freedom to challenging Trump-era policies on immigration, military power, and social welfare, Krishnamoorthi underscored his commitment to protecting both Illinois communities and broader democratic values.
