Community tree planting drive brings environmental awareness to Roselle
Residents of Roselle came together on Saturday last week for a Community Tree Planting Day, a local environmental initiative organized in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago, the Chicago Indo-US Lions Club, and the Roselle Park District. Held under the theme “Love Our Mother Earth,” the event aimed to promote environmental stewardship and community involvement through tree planting.
Volunteers of all ages participated in the initiative, including dozens of high school students from Lake Park Schools who arrived early in the day to help plant saplings throughout the park. Their active participation helped reinforce the event’s message about the importance of sustainability and environmental education.Organizers from both FIA and the Indo-US Lions Club coordinated logistics, supplied tools and saplings, and guided volunteers through the planting process. Dinesh Kapoor of FIA oversaw the operational aspects of the event, ensuring smooth execution throughout the day.
Speaking at the event, FIA Chairman Sunil Shah emphasized the broader purpose of the initiative. “This is not just about planting trees—it’s about planting hope,” he said, highlighting the environmental and community benefits of increasing green cover, such as improved air quality and climate resilience.Representing the Indo-US Lions Club, founder Hina Trivedi coordinated with the City of Roselle and other stakeholders to bring the project to fruition. “When people unite for a cause greater than themselves, the result is impactful,” she said, noting the event’s spirit of collaboration.
The event saw participation from community members and leaders, including Anu Malhotra, President of FIA Chicago, and members of the Indo-US Lions Club such as Lion Dulsa, Lion Dr. Jay Trivedi, Lion Tony, Gopal Shah, Veronica, Lion Sunny Trivedi, and others who contributed their time and resources.Several local residents also joined spontaneously after seeing the activity in the park, demonstrating widespread community support for the environmental cause.
The tree planting drive reflected the growing interest in grassroots environmental action and underscored the importance of civic partnerships in addressing local sustainability goals.
