Sindhi traditions shine at SAMC Chetichand celebrations 2026

The Sindhi Association of Metropolitan Chicago celebrated Chetichand, the Sindhi New Year, with great fervor and cultural pride at Ashyana Banquet on March 22, 2026. The vibrant gathering brought together families and community members for an evening filled with devotion, tradition, and unity.

The celebrations began with prayers dedicated to Lord Jhulelal, followed by the traditional ‘Behrana Sahib’ ceremony. Soulful aarti and devotional bhajans created a serene and spiritually uplifting atmosphere, setting a meaningful tone for the evening.

A major highlight of the event was the colorful showcase of Sindhi culture through traditional music and energetic dance performances. Participants of all ages took part, filling the venue with joy, enthusiasm, and a deep sense of cultural pride.

The program was formally introduced by Vice President Vinita Gulabani, who extended a warm welcome to all attendees. President of the Sindhi Association of Metropolitan Chicago (SAMC), Mr. Kenny Gurnani, addressed the gathering and acknowledged the efforts of the current board members, including Dr. Subash Balaney, Vinita Gulabani, Raj Khatri, Sanjay Wadhvani, and Nand Balani.

Mr. Gurnani also expressed his appreciation for the continued support and active participation of community leaders such as Sunil Shah, Dr. Bhupender Beri, Dr. Radhika Chimata, Praful Rami, and Vyom Joshi. As part of the evening, the association honored Manju Dadlani and Dr. Ramesh Chhablani for their contributions to the community.

The Chief Guest, Deputy Consul General of India, Shri Kriti Das Thokchom, was warmly welcomed with a traditional Sindhi cap and Jhulelal shawl by the SAMC board. His presence added prestige to the celebration, highlighting the strong connection between the community and Indian cultural heritage.

Guests enjoyed authentic Sindhi cuisine, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion. The well-attended event stood as a testament to the community’s commitment to preserving and promoting its rich traditions.
