Spindle India, Inc. blends tradition and celebration at 12th Annual India Fest Wisconsin, marking India’s Independence Day
On Saturday, August 24th, Spindle India, Inc. marked the 12th Annual IndiaFest Wisconsin and the 78th Independence Day of India with vibrant festivities in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. The celebration began at the downtown village park in Waukesha County with a parade featuring the deity Ganesh, followed by the hoisting of India’s tricolor flag. The event included performances of the national anthems of both India and the United States, symbolizing the shared values of the world’s largest and oldest democracies.
IndiaFest Wisconsin, a longstanding tradition, highlights India’s independence, culture, traditions, and heritage. This year’s event saw the official proclamation of August 15th, 2024, as INDIA DAY by Governor Tony Evers. Recognition for Spindle India, Inc.’s efforts to bring IndiaFest to the community was also received from Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, and Brookfield Mayor Steven Ponto.
The festival was honored by the presence of U.S. Congressman Glenn Grothman, Consul (Head of Chancery and Community Affairs) Vinod Gautam, Chairman Waukesha County Supervisor James Heinrich, Chair of the Republican Party Congressional District 4 Robert Spindell, and State Senator Duey Stroebel. U.S. Senator Ron Johnson provided special recognition, praising the event for its role in enhancing the visibility of the Indian community in Wisconsin.
Congressman Grothman expressed his enjoyment of the event, highlighting the great food and the opportunity to connect with Wisconsin’s Indian community. Governor Evers remarked that India Day not only commemorates India’s Independence but also allows Wisconsinites to learn about Indian culture and foster stronger community bonds. Senator Dan Knodl acknowledged the contributions of IndiaFest’s organizers and volunteers, commending their efforts in promoting cultural understanding and diversity.
Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow praised Spindle India, Inc. for its role in promoting diversity and inclusion since 2013. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley also recognized the festival’s commitment to improving U.S.-India relations and celebrating Indian heritage.
Consul General of Bangladesh Monir Choudhury lauded Purnima Nath and Spindle India, Inc. for their ongoing community service and efforts to enhance cultural visibility. Consul General of Nepal Marvin A. Brustin extended warm wishes for showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage.
Purnima Nath, founder of Spindle India, Inc., emphasized the significance of highlighting both the Indian and U.S. flags during the celebration, reflecting the strong relationship between the two countries. She expressed the importance of platforms like IndiaFest in fostering understanding and breaking down cultural barriers.
The event featured devotional, patriotic, and Bollywood music and dance, alongside diverse vendors offering clothing, jewelry, food, and ethnic drinks. Artifacts and traditional decor from India created an immersive experience, with contemporary Bollywood DJ services provided by Salman from Chicago.
