
UPA Diwali Mela 2025 lights up Naperville with unity, culture, and celebration

The Matrix Club in Naperville transformed into a vibrant hub of lights, colors, and celebration as the United Punjabis of America (UPA) hosted its grand Diwali Mela 2025, welcoming thousands from across the Chicagoland area. Under the leadership of UPA President Atul Wahi and Chairman Brij Sharma, the event beautifully showcased the essence of Diwali—celebrating light over darkness, community over isolation, and pride in Indian heritage.
The festivities began with a warm welcome by President Atul Wahi, setting an inspiring and inclusive tone for the day. Master of Ceremonies kept the audience engaged throughout the event, blending charm and energy while introducing a rich lineup of performances.
“My deepest gratitude to President Atul Wahi and Board Member Rosey Bhasin for their exceptional leadership and tireless dedication. The success of Diwali Mela 2025 was made possible by the teamwork, creativity, and commitment of our entire organizing team,” said UPA Chairman Brij Sharma.
Cultural Extravaganza
The cultural performances reflected India’s rich artistic diversity. Team Laya, led by Priyanka Parekh, opened the show with an energetic dance medley, followed by a graceful solo by Gia Choudhary. Team Avishkaar (led by Anagha Naik Tambe) and Suhani Dance Academy (led by Falguni Rana) brought creativity and classical charm to the stage.
Dynamic acts from RVD Academy (Sunny Aheer), Taal Tarang (Lekshmi Varun), Chicago Dance Varsity and Chicago Dance Variety (Puja Joshi), Bhangra Rhymes (Mandeep Kular), Dance with Anamika (Anamika Singh), Motion and Waves (Upasna Malhotra), and Team Ghunguru (Sridevi Pandalai) added rhythm and color to the afternoon.
Judges the challenging task of evaluating the outstanding talent presented on stage.
A Feast for the Senses
Guests enjoyed an authentic culinary journey through India with a wide array of dishes served by various vendors offering everything from Punjabi delicacies to traditional sweets.
Ceremonial Highlights
During the formal lamp lighting ceremony, community leaders and dignitaries came together to illuminate the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing hope and unity.
The event also included renditions of the national anthems of India and the United States, performed by Shriya Tiwari and Shikha Tandon, reflecting harmony between cultures.
Community Hero Awards
The Community Hero Awards honored individuals whose service has uplifted Chicagoland’s Indian community. Honorees included Shay Alina, Kader Sodagar, Uma Katiki, Shivam Viswanathan, Yogi Bhardwaj, Vijay Sharma, Brij Sharma, and Atul Wahi—each recognized for their leadership, compassion, and dedication.
Certificates of appreciation were also presented to dance teachers and choreographers, acknowledging their artistic contributions.
Performances that Inspired
The afternoon continued with captivating performances by Ashke Bhangra Club, Inspire School of Dance, Science of Spirituality, Hari Om Mandir, Sant Nirankari Mission, Arya Samaj, and Payel’s Group—each adding unique energy to the celebration.
Musical highlights included soulful karaoke performances by Dr. Pradeep, Sargam Kapoor, Manmeet Kaur, Payel Roy G, and Abhinav Srivastav, whose Hawaiian guitar added a distinctive melody to the evening.
Empowering Future Generations
A special segment spotlighted the United Punjabis of America Scholarship Fund, launched in partnership with the Community Foundation of Fox River Valley, reaffirming UPA’s commitment to education, empowerment, and youth development.

As the diyas flickered across The Matrix Club, the air was filled with joy, gratitude, and cultural pride. The event not only celebrated Diwali but also embodied the enduring message of unity and service that defines the Indian-American community.
“UPA’s Diwali Mela was more than an event—it was a reminder that our traditions continue to bind us together, even in a rapidly changing world,” said a community member in attendance.
With vibrant performances, heartfelt recognitions, and a spirit of togetherness, UPA’s Diwali Mela 2025 shone as one of Chicagoland’s most memorable cultural celebrations of the year.
