Indian Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri concluded a three-day visit to Washington, D.C. from May 27 to 29, 2025, aimed at advancing the India-U.S. strategic partnership across defense, technology, commerce, and global governance. The visit followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s February 2025 trip to the U.S., during which the two countries launched the India-U.S. COMPACT initiative — Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology.

Joined by Deputy National Security Advisor Pavan Kapoor, Misri held high-level consultations with senior officials across the U.S. Departments of State, Defense, Treasury, and Commerce, as well as the National Security Council.

In a meeting with Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, both sides emphasized that technology, trade, and talent would anchor the bilateral relationship. Discussions with Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg and Under Secretary Elbridge Colby focused on co-development of defense platforms, military exercises, and interoperability frameworks.

At the Treasury, Misri and Deputy Secretary Michael Faulkender explored enhanced cooperation in global financial institutions and coordination ahead of the upcoming Financial Action Task Force (FATF) review. Talks with Under Secretary of Commerce Jeffrey Kessler addressed streamlining export controls and progressing on the Bilateral Trade Agreement and strategic technologies.

The Indian delegation also co-chaired industry and think tank roundtables, underlining a shared commitment to innovation and regional security, aligned with multilateral platforms such as the Quad, I2U2, and IMEEC.
