The Embassy of India in Washington, DC, in collaboration with MY Bharat and under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, hosted the Viksit Bharat Run 2025 on Sunday in Maryland. Part of a historic global initiative, the event was held simultaneously in over 150 locations worldwide, celebrating fitness, sustainability, and the collective spirit of service.

The Washington DC edition saw enthusiastic participation from the Indian diaspora, students, professionals, local communities, and friends of India, all rallying in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047—a roadmap toward a developed India.

A run with a purpose

Organized as part of Seva Pakhwada (September 17–October 2), the run was more than a fitness activity; it was a public statement of shared responsibility. Under the theme “Run to Serve the Nation”, participants highlighted values of Seva Bhav (spirit of service), inclusivity, and sustainability, reaffirming their connection to India’s growth story. Community leaders noted the event reflects India’s transformative progress in infrastructure, healthcare, technology, and education, while promoting self-reliance (Swadeshi ethos) and environmental responsibility.

“Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” – a green pledge

Adding a symbolic dimension, participants planted a tree at the Jain Temple in Maryland as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, dedicated to honoring mothers. The initiative connected environmental stewardship with personal responsibility, emphasizing that small acts can contribute to a greener, more sustainable planet.

A global movement

The Viksit Bharat Run 2025 highlighted the power of the Indian diaspora as cultural ambassadors, building bridges with local communities. By uniting in fitness and service, Washington DC and DMV area participants joined millions worldwide in reaffirming their commitment to a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future for both India and the world.
