On the occasion of Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), the Consulate General of India in Seattle unveiled a striking new installation — the “Wall of Unity” — paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s Iron Man and the architect of national integration. The ceremony was held at the newly inaugurated chancery premises of the Consulate, marking yet another milestone in India’s growing diplomatic presence in the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

The installation features a breathtaking pictorial depiction of the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue at 182 meters (597 feet), situated on the banks of the Narmada River in Kevadia, Gujarat. Set against the serene Narmada Valley backdrop, the Wall of Unity not only celebrates Patel’s monumental contribution to the unification of India’s 562 princely states after independence but also symbolizes India’s strength in unity and diversity.

Measuring 30 feet by 14 feet, the installation is located prominently inside the Consulate’s public visitors’ area, adjacent to a curated exhibit of “One District One Product (ODOP)” items representing all 28 Indian states. Together, they offer visitors a vibrant glimpse into India’s cultural, artisanal, and tourism richness — from handloom treasures to regional specialties — transforming the Consulate into a living showcase of India’s heritage and creativity.

During the unveiling ceremony, the Consul General inaugurated the Wall for public viewing and administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge to officials and guests, reaffirming their commitment to the ideals of unity, integrity, and national service espoused by Sardar Patel. The event was attended by members of the Indian American community, local dignitaries, and representatives of business and cultural organizations from across the Seattle metropolitan area.

The mission plays a crucial role in strengthening bilateral ties, facilitating consular services, and promoting trade, technology partnerships, tourism, and cultural exchanges between India and the region — home to major global technology hubs and a thriving Indian diaspora.

Since its opening, the Consulate’s multipurpose hall has hosted community events, business meetings, and cultural exhibitions, drawing an average of 200 visitors per month — including consular applicants, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

Sardar Patel’s Enduring Legacy

Located in Kevadia, Gujarat, it has become a major international tourist destination and a symbol of India’s national pride — attracting millions of visitors from around the world every year.

A Symbol of Global Connection
