Angelina Jolie supports Zahara’s speech on period poverty

Hollywood actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie attended a mother-daughter brunch in Alabama alongside her daughter Zahara, who delivered a keynote speech on period poverty.

The event, organized by Women in Training Inc., aimed to raise awareness about period poverty—a global issue where women and girls lack access to menstrual products, education, and sanitation facilities. Zahara, a member of Spelman College’s Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority since November 2023, was the keynote speaker at the fourth annual Women in Training (WIT) Mother-Daughter Brunch at the Renaissance Hotel, reports People.com.

“We are truly honored that Zahara Jolie-Pitt will speak about her passion to end period poverty, which is the mission of Women in Training,” said Adeyela Bennett, the organization’s president and CEO, according to WAKA 8 Action News. She also expressed excitement about Angelina’s presence, highlighting her support for both her daughter and the organization’s mission.

Angelina adopted Zahara from Ethiopia in 2005 when she was just seven months old. The Oscar-winning actress shares six children—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne—with her ex-husband Brad Pitt.

Jolie and her children have consistently been involved in humanitarian efforts. Just a month before the Alabama event, the actress and her kids contributed to relief efforts for families affected by wildfires in Los Angeles. A source close to Jolie told People.com that her children are actively volunteering, collecting supplies, and working with organizations like World Central Kitchen.

While Jolie prefers to keep her philanthropic efforts private, those close to her say she focuses on listening, learning, and supporting causes without seeking public recognition.
