Guy Ritchie directs Road House 2
English filmmaker Guy Ritchie is set to direct Road House 2, reuniting with actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who returns in the lead role as ex-UFC fighter Dalton.
According to Variety, this marks the third collaboration between Ritchie and Gyllenhaal and their second project for Amazon MGM Studios following Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant. They have also worked together on the upcoming action thriller In the Grey.
Will Beall, known for Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, is writing the script for the sequel. Plot details are currently under wraps.
The sequel is produced by Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment, Gyllenhaal through his Nine Stories Productions along with Josh McLaughlin, and executive produced by Ivan Atkinson.
Road House is a reboot of the 1989 action film starring Patrick Swayze. The 2024 version followed Gyllenhaal’s Dalton, a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse. He soon finds himself in conflict with outlaws, bikers, and a corrupt developer. The film featured Conor McGregor in his acting debut.
Amazon MGM hailed the reboot as a major streaming success. Released in March 2024 on Prime Video, it became the studio’s most-watched produced film debut ever, drawing nearly 80 million viewers globally in its first eight weeks.
Ritchie’s filmography includes major box office successes like Disney’s live-action Aladdin (2019), which grossed over $1 billion, and The Gentlemen, a British gangster comedy that inspired a Netflix spinoff series currently preparing for its second season.
