Ed Sheeran says family needs 24/7 security due to ‘sinister’ threats

Grammy-winning artist Ed Sheeran revealed that his family now requires round-the-clock security following multiple “sinister” incidents, including kidnap threats and attempted break-ins.

Speaking on Australia’s 60 Minutes, Sheeran said, “It’s more than just fans wanting selfies. We’ve had break-in attempts and things left on my car. It’s way more sinister.” He admitted that the intense threats have forced his family into a permanent state of caution. “We have a level of security that probably won’t change until I pass away. That’s just our life now.”

Sheeran, father to two young daughters—Lyra, 4, and Jupiter, 3—also opened up about uncomfortable run-ins with fans who attempt to photograph him while he’s with his children. “I’ve had some real arguments. I’m fine taking pictures, but it’s weird with a four-year-old and a three-year-old,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Sheeran emphasized he still loves making music and performing. “I want to tour, write songs, and have people come to the gigs. But I also want a normal life for my kids and to focus on being a dad.”

Previously, on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Sheeran explained that his family’s heightened security measures followed “a couple of weird things” that made him realize how dangerous the public spotlight can be. “I have 24-hour security at my house, for my kids, my wife, and myself,” he said.

Calling it “a different kind of normal,” Sheeran admitted that high-level security is now an unavoidable part of life for celebrities. “There are lots of dangerous people out there. It’s a reality no one talks about.”
