Everything you need to know about IUHS School of Medicine
The International University of the Health Sciences (IUHS), located on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts with administrative offices in Winnipeg, Canada, offers a flexible and innovative MD program tailored for international students—without requiring travel to campus.
Program Overview:
The IUHS MD curriculum is divided into two phases:
- Preclinical (Years 1 & 2): Fully online and split into 11 study blocks. Students complete graded exams, DxR Clinician assignments, and participate in mandatory self-assessments via Lecturio. After completing Block 11, students take the IUHS Exit Exam (and USMLE Step 1 for U.S. students).
- Clinical (Years 3 & 4): Comprising 80 weeks of rotations—48 weeks core, 32 electives—students rotate at affiliated hospitals in the U.S. or through guided placement in Australia. Clinical training begins around Block 8.
Learning Methods:
IUHS combines systems-based and problem-based learning with spaced repetition for better knowledge retention. Live lectures from top professors, recorded sessions, and weekly Q&C discussions help students stay engaged and supported remotely.
Virtual Tools:
- DxR Clinician: Simulated patient encounters enhance clinical reasoning skills.
- Lecturio: A global digital platform providing AI-driven learning, video lectures, and USMLE-style questions.
Early Mentorship:
IUHS stands out by integrating hands-on clinical mentorship into the preclinical years. Each student works with a local physician for 20 hours monthly, gaining early clinical exposure and bridging the gap between theory and practice.
With a robust online structure, global support, and strong clinical integration, IUHS prepares future physicians to thrive anywhere in the world.
