Centre vows strong response to Pahalgam terror attack: Pralhad Joshi

Union Minister for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, on Wednesday assured that the central government is committed to taking decisive action against the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, Joshi stated, “PM Modi has already implemented strict measures nationwide to curb terrorism, particularly in the Valley. Since 2019, there have been no major terror activities. The Pahalgam attack has been taken very seriously, and strong action will follow.”

Joshi emphasized that such terror incidents aim to disrupt the peace and negatively impact the booming tourism sector in J&K.

“Jammu and Kashmir is the crown of India and is even more beautiful than Switzerland. Under PM Modi’s leadership, the region has transformed into a major tourism hub, seeing record tourist numbers in the last 5–6 years,” he said.

He further claimed that the rapid development of J&K and peaceful conduct of various elections have drawn the ire of terrorists.

Regarding safety concerns following the attack, Joshi confirmed that arrangements are being made for the safe return of all Kannadigas currently in Kashmir.

“I’ve been in continuous contact with the J&K Lieutenant Governor and relevant officials. Special flight services have been arranged to bring Kannadigas back, with routes via Delhi and Mumbai. All will be returned home within two days,” Joshi said.

Tragically, he confirmed that three individuals from Karnataka were among the deceased and two others were injured.

“Efforts are underway to transport the mortal remains, the injured, and other tourists back home safely. Airlines have been instructed not to inflate ticket prices during this emergency,” he added.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister and Rajya Sabha MP H.D. Deve Gowda expressed his sorrow over the attack. “What happened in Pahalgam yesterday has greatly disturbed me. My condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their loved ones,” he said.
