Congress backs armed forces after Operation Sindoor
In response to India’s pre-emptive military strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Congress Party held an emergency Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Wednesday and extended its full support to the Indian Armed Forces.
The high-level meeting, chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, included key party leaders including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The party issued a statement affirming its “complete support” to the armed forces and the government’s action to dismantle terror camps across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
“We had a detailed discussion in the Congress Working Committee meeting. We extend our full support to our armed forces. Best wishes and much love to them,” said Rahul Gandhi after the meeting.
Congress President Kharge praised the armed forces’ bold response under Operation Sindoor, calling it a “befitting reply” to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. “We salute the courage, determination and patriotism of our brave soldiers,” he said.
Kharge reiterated that the Congress Party has always stood united with the country in times of crisis. “From the day of the Pahalgam attack, the Indian National Congress has unequivocally supported the Government’s and armed forces’ response against terrorism,” he said.
He stressed that India’s national policy on cross-border terrorism is “clear and unwavering” and urged for national unity at this critical juncture. “There is a great need for unity at all levels to protect the integrity of the nation,” he stated.
Invoking the historical contributions of Indian soldiers, Kharge added, “Our heroes have always laid down their lives for the unity and integrity of the nation, keeping the national interest above all.”
The meeting marked a rare moment of bipartisan consensus, as political leadership rallied behind the military’s anti-terror operations amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
