Cyprus Foreign Minister Kombos arrives in India for talks with EAM Jaishankar
Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening the India-Cyprus Comprehensive Partnership and advancing cooperation under the Action Plan 2025–2029.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Kombos, highlighting the visit as “an opportunity to review progress in implementation of the IN-CY Action Plan 2025–29 and discuss the Comprehensive Partnership.” Kombos is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar and deliver a lecture on Thursday.
Jaishankar and Kombos last met on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly session in New York, where they discussed developments in Europe and reaffirmed support for a peaceful settlement of the Cyprus issue in line with UN resolutions. “Reviewed progress in bilateral ties since the successful visit of PM Narendra Modi,” Jaishankar had posted on X.
Prime Minister Modi’s June 2025 visit to Cyprus — the first by an Indian leader in over two decades — marked a milestone in bilateral relations. During that visit, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides conferred upon Modi the nation’s highest civilian honour, the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III.
Cyprus remains an important partner for India within the European Union, with cooperation expanding across trade, technology, education, and maritime security. The visit also comes amid ongoing regional tensions involving Turkey, which continues to recognize the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Kombos’ meetings in New Delhi are expected to reinforce India’s engagement with the Mediterranean region while deepening strategic, political, and economic cooperation with Cyprus.
