Delhi Police deploy six officers at New Delhi Railway Station for crowd management
In the wake of the tragic stampede that claimed 18 lives, Delhi Police have deployed six inspector-rank officers at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) to improve crowd management and ensure passenger safety.
These officers, selected for their prior experience handling operations at NDLS, will help streamline crowd movement, particularly as the station sees a surge in passengers due to the ongoing Kumbh Mela. Authorities anticipate further increases in footfall leading up to the Maha Shivratri snan on February 26, prompting enhanced security measures.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday night when a sudden surge of passengers on a foot-overbridge led to panic, resulting in a deadly stampede. In response, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has ordered an inquiry and formed a high-level committee to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, devotees continue to arrive in Prayagraj, with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath confirming that 1.49 crore pilgrims took a holy dip at the Sangam on Sunday.
