Hamas to review US ceasefire proposal as Arab, Muslim nations express support

Hamas confirmed it has received a US-backed proposal to end the war in Gaza, delivered by Qatari and Egyptian mediators during a meeting in Doha. The plan, which already has the backing of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was presented to Hamas negotiators by Qatar’s prime minister and Egypt’s intelligence chief, a Hamas source said.

According to the source, Hamas has agreed to study the proposal “with sincere intent” before issuing an official response. Egyptian media also confirmed the handover of the plan, noting that several Arab countries had suggested amendments before its delivery.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said Netanyahu had endorsed the peace framework, which requires Hamas to release all remaining hostages within 72 hours if accepted. While urging Hamas to agree, Trump warned that rejection would prompt Israel to continue its military campaign. Netanyahu echoed the warning, pledging to “finish the job” if Hamas refuses.

The proposal immediately faced opposition from Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian militant faction allied with Hamas, which rejected it as “a recipe for continued aggression.” In a statement, the group accused Israel and the US of trying to impose terms they had failed to achieve through war.

By contrast, the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank welcomed the initiative, saying it was prepared to cooperate with the US and regional partners to secure a comprehensive agreement. It stressed the need for humanitarian aid, the release of prisoners, and protections for Palestinians.

In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Qatar, and Egypt endorsed the US proposal. They praised its focus on ending hostilities, preventing displacement, rebuilding Gaza, halting annexation, and laying the groundwork for a two-state solution.
